Quick answer: Navratri 2026 in Dubai and the UAE runs from Sunday 11 October to Monday 19 October. Ghatasthapana is on Sunday 11 October, with a sunrise-based window of 6:15 AM – 10:08 AM in Dubai and 6:18 AM – 10:12 AM in Abu Dhabi. Because a tithi is skipped this year, Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami are both on Monday 19 October (Drik Panchang for Dubai), and Dussehra (Vijayadashami) is on Tuesday 20 October. The first day and the weekend of 17–18 October are the easiest days for Garba and family gatherings; the last three days fall on working days.

This guide is written for families in the Emirates who want the 2026 dates as a UAE panchang gives them, not as an Indian calendar prints them. It covers the emirate-wise Ghatasthapana times, the nine Devis and colours, how to set up the kalash at home, fasting, Garba and Dandiya, Golu, Bathukamma, temple visits and how to fit it all around a Monday-to-Friday working week. For Vijayadashami itself, see our Dussehra 2026 guide for Dubai and the UAE, emirate by emirate.

Ghatasthapana 2026: emirate-wise times

Ghatasthapana (also called Kalash Sthapana) is the installation of the sacred pot that invokes the Goddess on the first morning of Navratri. The preferred time is the first third of the daytime, counted from local sunrise, on Pratipada. If that is not possible, the Abhijit Muhurat around local midday is the accepted alternative. All times below are UAE time (GST) on Sunday 11 October 2026.

Emirate / cityGhatasthapana (first third of the day)Abhijit Muhurat (alternative)
Dubai6:15 AM – 10:08 AM11:42 AM – 12:28 PM
Abu Dhabi6:18 AM – 10:12 AM11:45 AM – 12:32 PM
Sharjah (also Ajman, Umm Al Quwain)6:14 AM – 10:08 AM11:41 AM – 12:28 PM
Ras Al Khaimah6:12 AM – 10:06 AM11:39 AM – 12:26 PM
Al Ain6:12 AM – 10:06 AM11:40 AM – 12:27 PM

How these were worked out: the windows were calculated from each city's sunrise and sunset and agree with Drik Panchang to within about a minute. They are sunrise-based, so please confirm on Drik Panchang for your own city, or follow the time your priest or temple gives. Fujairah and east-coast residents can use the Ras Al Khaimah or Al Ain row; the spread across the country is only a few minutes.

Sunday is a weekend day in the UAE, so most families can do Ghatasthapana unhurried in the early morning. If you have a morning shift, the Abhijit window at midday is a perfectly acceptable fallback.

Each day of Navratri is dedicated to one of the nine forms of Durga (Navadurga), and many families, offices and Garba groups dress in a matching colour. For the UAE, the first seven days run as follows.

Important for 2026: because a tithi is skipped this year, Ashtami (Mahagauri, Purple) and Navami (Siddhidatri, Pink) are both observed on Monday 19 October in the UAE. Many families honour Mahagauri in the morning and Siddhidatri later in the day, or combine the two pujas. Wearing purple and pink together, or purple in the morning and pink in the evening, is a simple way to keep the colour tradition.

What about Sunday 18 October? At UAE sunrise that morning the tithi is still Saptami; Ashtami begins at 6:57 AM. Families who follow a UAE panchang usually continue the Kalaratri worship of Day 7, while families who follow the Telangana calendar mark Durga Ashtami and Saddula Bathukamma on the 18th. Both are correct for their own calendars. If you fast or do Kanya Puja on Ashtami, ask your priest which date your temple will use.

Why Ashtami and Navami share 19 October in the UAE

Ashtami tithi begins at 8:27 AM IST on 18 October, which is 6:57 AM in the UAE, after sunrise in every emirate. By sunrise on Monday 19 October, Navami is already running. Ashtami never touches a UAE sunrise, so panchangs calculated for Dubai fold Durga Ashtami into Monday 19 October alongside Maha Navami. Drik Panchang for Delhi, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia show the same pattern; the USA, Canada and the UK keep Ashtami on Sunday 18 October.

Vijayadashami is unaffected: Dashami covers the whole of Tuesday afternoon in the UAE, so Dussehra is on Tuesday 20 October everywhere in the country.

How to do Ghatasthapana at home

A flat or villa in the Emirates is enough for a simple, complete Ghatasthapana. Gather what you need on Saturday 10 October so the morning of the 11th is calm.

  • Clean the space: choose a clean corner, ideally facing east or north, and wipe it down. Place a low stool or wooden plank covered with a red or yellow cloth.
  • Sow the barley: spread a layer of clean soil or sand in a wide shallow tray and scatter barley (jau) or wheat seeds. These sprout over the nine days and are seen as a sign of prosperity. Indian grocery stores in the UAE usually stock them before Navratri.
  • Prepare the kalash: fill a copper, brass or clay pot with clean water. Add a coin, a betel nut, a little rice, durva grass and turmeric. Tie a sacred thread (mauli) around the neck.
  • Mango leaves and coconut: place five or seven mango leaves around the mouth of the pot and set a coconut wrapped in red cloth on top. Stand the kalash in the centre of the barley tray.
  • Invoke and light the lamp: begin with a prayer to Ganesha, then invite the Goddess into the kalash. Light a ghee lamp (akhand jyoti, if your family keeps one burning for the nine days) and offer flowers, kumkum, akshat and fruit.
  • Do it inside the window: complete the installation within your emirate's Ghatasthapana window, or in the Abhijit window if you miss it.

Fire safety in apartments: if you keep an akhand jyoti, place it in a deep holder away from curtains, smoke detectors and children, and never leave it unattended in a building where open flames are restricted. Many families in UAE apartments use a covered diya or an electric lamp for the continuous light and a real lamp only during puja.

Fasting in the UAE (only if your health allows)

Many families keep a full nine-day fast; others fast on the first and last days, or only on Ashtami. Fasting is a personal choice, and it should be adapted to your health and work.

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with diabetes or other medical conditions, older family members and children should speak to a doctor first and choose a lighter observance, such as a fruit-and-milk fast or simply avoiding grains, onion and garlic.
  • Keep drinking water through the day. Even in October, the UAE is warm, and offices, Metro stations and outdoor walks add up.
  • Stock up on sabudana, kuttu (buckwheat) flour, singhara flour, samak rice, rock salt (sendha namak), peanuts and makhana before Sunday 11 October; Indian supermarkets get busy in the first days.
  • With Ashtami and Navami on the same day this year, families who usually break the fast after Kanya Puja on Ashtami or Navami should agree in advance when they will do so on Monday 19 October.

Garba and Dandiya nights in the UAE

Garba and Dandiya Raas, the circle dances of Gujarat, have become one of the most visible parts of Navratri in the Emirates. Celebrations range from small building-level circles and association evenings to large ticketed events organised by community groups and event companies.

  • Timing: with the UAE weekend on Saturday and Sunday, the biggest Garba nights in 2026 are likely to fall on Friday 16, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, with some groups also using the opening weekend.
  • Finding one: ask your community association, your building's residents' group, your temple or colleagues. We have not confirmed any specific 2026 Garba event in the UAE, so we do not list venues, dates or ticket prices.
  • Before you buy: confirm the organiser, venue, timings, dress code and refund policy directly. Be wary of unofficial resellers.
  • Dress: chaniya choli and kediyu are the classic outfits; many dancers match the colour of the day. Comfortable footwear helps on long nights.

Golu and Bommala Koluvu

Tamil, Telugu and Kannada families set up Golu (Bommai Kolu in Tamil, Bommala Koluvu in Telugu, Bombe Habba in Kannada): an odd number of steps, usually three, five, seven or nine, arranged with dolls of deities, saints, village scenes and festival figures. Many put it up on Sunday 11 October and keep it until Vijayadashami.

  • Visiting each other's Golu is a social highlight. Evening visits on weekdays are usually short; weekends are for larger gatherings with songs and sundal.
  • Guests, especially women and girls, traditionally receive a small return gift with kumkum and turmeric.
  • Saraswati Puja and Ayudha Puja fall on Monday 19 October in the UAE: books, instruments, tools, laptops and vehicles are blessed, then taken back on Vijayadashami.

Bathukamma in Dubai: confirmed for 11 October

Telangana families celebrate Bathukamma, the floral festival of Gauri, from Saturday 10 October (Engili Pula Bathukamma) to Sunday 18 October (Saddula Bathukamma) on the Telangana calendar. In Dubai, two community celebrations have been confirmed for the first day of Navratri:

DateEventTimePlace
Sun 11 OctGulf Telangana Forum (GTF) Bathukamma5–7:30 PMDubai
Sun 11 OctETCA Bathukamma8–10 PMAl Ahli Sports Club, Dubai
Sun 18 OctSaddula Bathukamma (Telangana calendar)By family or groupWorldwide

The Telangana Friends Association in Abu Dhabi usually holds a celebration too, but its 2026 date had not been announced when we last checked. For the full Bathukamma story and Gulf tips, read our Bathukamma and Dasara 2026 guide for Dubai and the UAE.

Temple visits during Navratri

The BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi and the Hindu temple in Jebel Ali, Dubai, are the main places of worship for many families during Navratri. Programmes, visiting hours and any registration or dress requirements are announced by the temples themselves, so check their official channels before you go. Expect the heaviest crowds on the weekend of 17–18 October and on the evenings of Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 October. Dress modestly, allow time for parking and security checks, and follow each temple's rules on photography.

Practical tips for NRIs in the UAE

  • Plan around the working week: Days 2–6 and the Ashtami–Navami–Dussehra stretch are weekdays. Keep weekday puja short, morning or evening, and save big plans for the weekends.
  • Do not use India's timings: muhurats depend on local sunrise. Use the UAE windows on this page, or the time your temple announces, rather than a forwarded Indian time.
  • Shop early: puja items, flowers, fasting flours and Garba outfits are easiest to find in the week before Navratri.
  • Kanya Puja on 19 October: if you invite young girls for Kanya Puja, Monday 19 October is a school day, so an early-evening puja usually works best.
  • Telangana families: decide whether you will keep Ashtami with Saddula Bathukamma on the 18th or with the UAE panchang on the 19th, and tell your guests.

Looking ahead: Dussehra and Diwali

Dussehra (Vijayadashami) is on Tuesday 20 October. Emirate-wise Vijay Muhurat times are in our Dussehra 2026 Dubai and UAE guide; for reference, the Dubai window (Drik Panchang) is 1:59–2:44 PM and Abu Dhabi's is 2:02–2:48 PM. Do not convert India's Vijay Muhurat to UAE time; it is not the right window here.

Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, a weekend day in the UAE. See our Diwali 2026 guide for Australia, the UAE and Singapore and the November 2026 festival calendar.

Frequently asked questions

When is Navratri 2026 in Dubai and the UAE?

Sharad Navratri 2026 begins on Sunday 11 October in the UAE and runs to Monday 19 October, when Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami are both observed (Drik Panchang for Dubai). Dussehra (Vijayadashami) follows on Tuesday 20 October.

What is the Ghatasthapana time in Dubai on 11 October 2026?

The Ghatasthapana window in Dubai is 6:15 AM – 10:08 AM on Sunday 11 October, the first third of the day from local sunrise. If you miss it, the Abhijit Muhurat, 11:42 AM – 12:28 PM in Dubai, is the usual midday alternative. Times are calculated from sunrise and sunset, so confirm on Drik Panchang for your city.

Why are Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami on the same day in the UAE?

Ashtami tithi starts at 6:57 AM UAE time on Sunday 18 October, after sunrise, and Navami is already running at sunrise on Monday 19 October. Because Ashtami never prevails at a UAE sunrise, a tithi is effectively skipped, and Drik Panchang for Dubai lists both Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami on Monday 19 October.

Is Navratri or Dussehra a public holiday in the UAE?

No. The UAE weekend is Saturday and Sunday, so Ghatasthapana on Sunday 11 October and the weekend of 17–18 October are the easiest days for gatherings. Ashtami, Navami (Monday 19 October) and Dussehra (Tuesday 20 October) are working days.

When is Bathukamma 2026 in Dubai?

Bathukamma runs from 10 to 18 October on the Telangana calendar. Two community celebrations are confirmed in Dubai on Sunday 11 October: the Gulf Telangana Forum (GTF) Bathukamma from 5–7:30 PM and the ETCA Bathukamma from 8–10 PM at Al Ahli Sports Club. Saddula Bathukamma is on Sunday 18 October.

When is Diwali 2026 in the UAE?

Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, which is a weekend day in the UAE.

Editor's note (5 October 2026): Dates follow Drik Panchang for Dubai and the Telangana calendar for Bathukamma. Ghatasthapana and Abhijit windows were calculated from local sunrise and sunset and agree with Drik Panchang to within about a minute; please confirm for your city. The GTF and ETCA Bathukamma events on 11 October are confirmed. Garba nights, temple programmes and the Telangana Friends Association's Abu Dhabi date are not yet confirmed — organisers are still publishing 2026 flyers; we will update this guide.
