History of Nitya Kalyana Perumal Temple, Tiruvidanthai

According to temple tradition recounted by Dinamalar, the sage Markandeya worshipped the Lord here. The goddess is said to have united 360 maidens into one, and is therefore praised as Akhilavalli Nachiyar; she is also worshipped in a separate shrine as Komalavalli Thayar.

Architecture and sacred features

The presiding deity stands facing east, with one foot on the earth and the other on Adisesha and his consort, holding Akhilavalli Thayar on his left lap as Varaha Murthy. The vimana over the sanctum is called the Kalyana Vimanam (Dinamalar).
