Sri Kalyana Pasupatheeswarar Temple, also known as the Aanilayappar Temple, is a Hindu temple to Shiva in Karur, Tamil Nadu (The Hindu). Dinamani describes it as foremost among the Shiva shrines of Kongu Nadu, praised by Thirugnanasambandar and associated with the Siddhar Karuvurar.
Faith & Tradition
Dinamalar notes that the deity is praised in hymns by Thirugnanasambandar, by Karuvurar in the Tiruvisaipa and by Arunagirinathar in the Thiruppugazh, and that it is the ninth Tevaram-hymned Shiva temple of the Kongu region. The Nayanmars Eripatha Nayanar and Karuvur Thevar are said to have been born here, and by tradition the Siddhar Karuvurar merged with the deity at this temple.
Heritage
An earlier renovation of the temple included work on the rajagopuram, a new annadhana mandapam, silver-plated doors for the main shrines and a new flag mast, followed by a Mahakumbhabhishekam, The Hindu reported. The temple's latest Maha Kumbhabhishekam was held on 4 December 2020, Dinamani reported.
