Shiva (Thyagaraja) temple · Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, India
Sri Thyagaraja Swamy Temple in Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, is a Hindu temple to Shiva, worshipped here as Thyagaraja. Dinamalar describes it as one of the most famous temples in Tamil Nadu, so large that it takes a full day to worship at all its shrines.
Faith & Tradition
Unlike many temples where subsidiary shrines are small, here each is large in size and importance, including the shrines of Veedhi Vidanga Vinayaka, Achaleswara (praised separately in the Thevaram hymns), and the goddesses Kamalambal, Neelothpalambal and Roudra Durga, Dinamalar notes. By tradition, devotees who have the 'face darshan' of Lord Thyagaraja at Tiruvarur are advised to also have his 'feet darshan' at Vilamal, about 3 km away.
Heritage
The temple's thousand-pillared hall was built to hold the pandals (canopies) used during festivals, according to Dinamalar. The temple's Kumbhabhishekam (consecration) was held on 8 November 2015, when thousands of devotees from across Tamil Nadu gathered despite heavy rain, The Hindu reported.
