Sharad Navratri 2026 begins on Sunday 11 October and ends on Monday 19 October by the Indian calendar (Drik Panchang), with Dussehra (Vijayadashami) on Tuesday 20 October. Because most families work and study through the week, Garba abroad is concentrated on weekends, and Texas follows that pattern:

  • Sat 10 October: the eve of Navratri, with the opening night at the Radha Krishna Temple of Dallas, the DFW Gujarati Samaj Raas Garba in Frisco, Katy Garba and the Gujarati Samaj of Greater Austin night in Round Rock.
  • Sun 11 to Tue 20 October: nightly temple Garba in Allen throughout Navratri and on Dussehra.
  • Fri 16 and Sat 17 October: Southlake Garba Night and two nights of Bollywood Dandiya in Cedar Park.
  • Fri 23 and Sat 24 October: after Dussehra, with nights in Frisco, Stafford, Houston, Sugar Land and Round Rock.

For Ghatasthapana timings and Navratri dates for Dallas, Houston and other American cities, see Navratri 2026 in the USA, city by city. The Stafford night on 23 October is billed as a Sharad Poonam Garba; Sharad Purnima itself falls on 25 October, as explained in our Sharad Purnima 2026 guide.

Dallas-Fort Worth: Allen, Frisco and Southlake

For anyone who wants Garba on the actual nights of Navratri rather than only at weekends, the Radha Krishna Temple of Dallas in Allen is the main listed option in Texas. Its Navratri Mahotsav runs for 11 nights, from Saturday 10 October through Dussehra on Tuesday 20 October, generally from 7:30 PM, with a separate Kids Garba from 6:30 to 7:30 PM on 10 October and on 12 to 15 October. Entry is ticketed, so check the temple's page before you go.

In Frisco, the DFW Gujarati Samaj holds its Raas Garba on Saturday 10 October at the Frisco Flyers Event Center, which also hosts a Garba night on Friday 23 October. Southlake has a Garba night on Friday 16 October.

Why Garba is devotional, not only a dance

Garba is danced in a circle around a garbo, a clay pot with a lamp inside, or around an image of Ma Amba, the Goddess worshipped during Navratri. As traditionally understood, the lamp stands for the Divine light within every life, and the circle of dancers reflects the cycle of time moving around the Goddess at the centre. That is why a Garba evening begins with an aarti, and why temple Garba, like the nightly Mahotsav in Allen, feels as much like worship as celebration. Read more in Garba meaning and spiritual significance, the history of Garba from Gujarat to the world and Navratri mantras and prayers before Garba.

Several Texas nights are billed as Dandiya. Garba is danced with hand claps and turns, while Dandiya Raas is danced in pairs with decorated sticks; our Garba vs Dandiya Raas guide explains the difference.

First-timer tips for Texas Garba nights

  • Dress: see our Garba dress guide. If you like to follow the colour of the day, check the Navratri 2026 colours.
  • Steps: start with the simple two-clap step in the outer circle. Our Garba for beginners guide explains it step by step.
  • Heat and hydration: Texas October evenings can still be warm, and large halls get hot once the circle fills. Wear breathable fabrics and keep water to hand.
  • Parking and traffic: event centres and sports halls draw big crowds on Saturday nights. Check the venue's page for parking, arrive early and consider car-pooling.
  • Bringing kids: the temple's Kids Garba hour in Allen and the daytime Dandiya in Sugar Land are good first experiences for young children. At any night, agree a meeting point and keep little ones in the outer circle.
  • Etiquette: bow to Mataji on arrival, stand for the aarti, do not cross the centre of the circle, and follow the venue's rules on footwear, food and drink.
  • Tickets: buy only through the organiser's page or its official ticket link, and check that your ticket matches the night you plan to attend.

Garba near you if your town is not listed

We list only nights we could find on organiser and ticketing pages on 7 October 2026. Many smaller Garba evenings in Texas are run by temples, Jain centres, student associations and neighbourhood groups, and are announced only on their own websites, newsletters and social pages. If you live in San Antonio, El Paso, the Rio Grande Valley or a smaller college town, check your nearest Hindu temple and any Gujarati Samaj or Indian community association; most post their Navratri plans in late September and early October.

Garba elsewhere in the United States

Our Garba 2026 USA guide covers events state by state. There are separate pages for the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, New Jersey, New York and Boston and Massachusetts. Editor's note (7 October 2026)

This page was compiled on 7 October 2026 from the Radha Krishna Temple of Dallas's own Navratri page and from publicly available organiser and ticketing pages for Texas Garba and Dandiya nights. We list only nights with a published date and venue and do not add prices or line-ups. Navratri dates follow Drik Panchang for India.
