Quick answer: Navratri 2026 runs from Sunday 11 to Monday 19 October 2026, and Dussehra is on Tuesday 20 October (Drik Panchang, India). In Vadodara we found three Garba listings, led by the United Way of Baroda Garba Mahotsav at M M Farm, Atladara, from 11 to 19 October, which is listed on the Ministry of Tourism's Incredible India site. This page also covers four events in Surat and one in Rajkot.
Last updated: 7 October 2026.
Event status key: Confirmed means the date and venue appear on the organiser's page, an official tourism listing or the event's ticketing page. Listed — confirm with organiser means we found it only on a third-party listing such as AllEvents. Where the event page omits the year, the date column says so.
Large Garba grounds in Gujarat sell daily or season passes. Passes and tickets are on the listed event page; we do not list prices or performers.
Vadodara and traditional Garba
Vadodara, the old princely city of Baroda, is known across Gujarat for its devotion to traditional Garba. Many Barodians take pride in the classic forms: the circles moving in step to traditional Garba songs, the clap patterns, and the steady build of rhythm through the night. Visitors often notice how many people, young and old, dance with practised, graceful steps, and how the evening still centres on the aarti to Mataji.
Alongside the large ticketed grounds, much of Vadodara's Garba happens in housing societies, neighbourhood grounds and temple courtyards, often free for residents. If you are visiting friends or family, ask whether their society holds a Garba; it may be the most authentic evening of your trip. Read more in our Navratri 2026 Gujarat Garba guide.

Dress and etiquette for visitors
- Dress: chaniya choli or a bright, modest Indian outfit for women; kediyu, kurta or a bandhani dupatta for men. Some grounds require ethnic attire. See the Garba dress guide.
- Start in the outer circle: experienced dancers usually take the inner circles. Watch for a round or two, then join. Our Garba for beginners guide explains the basic steps.
- Respect the aarti: stand quietly when the aarti begins, and bow to Mataji on arrival.
- Do not cut across: walk around the outside of the circles rather than through them.
- Photos: ask before photographing people, especially women and children, up close.
- Garba or Dandiya? Vadodara grounds usually feature both; see Garba vs Dandiya Raas.
Travel and safety in Gujarat during Navratri
- Getting there: Vadodara is well connected by rail and road to Ahmedabad and Surat. Trains and buses get busy around Navratri, so book ahead where you can.
- Late nights: Garba often runs until late. Plan your ride home in advance, travel in a group, and share your live location with family.
- Women's safety: save the Gujarat police and national women's helpline numbers on your phone before you leave, and use registered cabs or autos.
- Parking and traffic: roads near large grounds get very busy in the evening; check the venue's page for parking and leave early.
- Passes: buy only on the listed event page or from the organiser.
- Children: keep little ones in the outer circle, agree a meeting point and carry water.
Why Garba is devotional
Garba is danced around a garbo, a clay pot with a lamp inside, or an image of Ma Amba. As traditionally understood, the lamp stands for the Divine light within every life and the circle of dancers for the cycle of time around the Goddess at the centre. Read Garba meaning and spiritual significance, the history of Garba from Gujarat to the world and Navratri mantras and prayers before Garba.
Details change — always confirm date, venue and tickets on the organiser's official page before you travel. Listings are for information; HinduTone is not affiliated with organisers.
