Murugan (Kolanjiappar) temple · Manavalanallur, Virudhachalam, Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, India
Arulmigu Kolanjiappar Temple is a Hindu temple to Murugan, worshipped as Kolanjiappar, at Manavalanallur village about 2 km from Virudhachalam in Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu, according to Maalaimalar and Dinamalar.
Faith & Tradition
The temple is known for 'Piradhu Kattudhal', in which devotees write their grievances — such as lost property, unreturned loans, illness, family problems, delayed marriage or unemployment — addressed to 'Manavalanallur Kolanjiappar', with their name, place and purpose. The priest places the petition at the deity's feet, performs archana and returns it with sacred ash, Dinamalar explains.
An idol made of sandal paste, placed on a pedestal with a crown, is worshipped as Kolanjiappar (Dinamalar).
Heritage
The temple stands in an area that was dense forest a few centuries ago, Maalaimalar notes. In 2010 the temple held an ashta bandhana maha kumbabhishekam after a renovation that included a new rajagopuram at the north entrance, a marriage hall and a 21-room facility for devotees, The Hindu reported.
