Bathukamma and Dasara 2026 in Europe, City by City: Dates, Events and Vijay Muhurat

Quick answer: Bathukamma 2026 runs from Saturday 10 October (Engili Pula Bathukamma, on Mahalaya Amavasya) to Sunday 18 October (Saddula Bathukamma) on the Telangana calendar. In western Europe, Durga Ashtami falls on the same Sunday; some eastern European panchangs show it on Monday 19 October. Dasara (Vijayadashami) is Tuesday 20 October everywhere in Europe, with a local afternoon Vijay Muhurat — 2:34–3:15 PM in Berlin, 3:20–4:03 PM in Paris. No European Bathukamma event had a confirmed 2026 date when we last checked, but Durga Pujas are confirmed in Berlin, The Hague and Amstelveen.

Telugu professionals, researchers and students now live in almost every major European city, and Bathukamma has followed them — from community halls in Dublin and the Netherlands to parks in Germany and the Nordics. Groups are smaller and more spread out than in the USA or the UK, so many celebrations are organised informally. This guide pulls together the 2026 dates, Vijay Muhurat for 20 cities, the confirmed events and what to expect city by city. Bathukamma and Dasara 2026: European dates at a glance

Europe is in a happy position this year: in the west, the Telangana calendar and local panchangs agree, so Saddula Bathukamma and Durga Ashtami are both on Sunday 18 October. Ashtami tithi begins at 8:27 AM IST on 18 October, which is before sunrise in western Europe. Further east, panchangs differ on whether to put Ashtami on the 18th or the 19th; if that matters for your family, ask your temple which date it is using. Telangana families generally keep Saddula Bathukamma on the 18th wherever they are.

Vijay Muhurat 2026 in European cities

Dashami tithi begins at 12:50 PM IST on 20 October, which is mid-morning or earlier everywhere in Europe, so the whole local afternoon window falls inside Dashami. All times below are local time on Tuesday 20 October. Europe is still on summer time that day; clocks go back on Sunday 25 October.

For cities not listed — Munich, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Geneva, Gothenburg and others — we have not calculated separate windows. The window shifts with longitude, so use the nearest listed city only as a rough guide and confirm with your temple or a panchang calculated for your city. Do not use India's time. India's Vijay Muhurat is 1:59–2:45 PM IST. It is calculated for Indian sunrise and sunset, and converted to European time it lands in the morning. It is not the right window anywhere in Europe.

Confirmed events in Europe, October 2026

These are the only European events on our confirmed list. They are Bengali Durga Pujas rather than Bathukamma, but they fall in the same Navratri week and welcome the wider Indian community. The Dublin entry is marked † — listed by third-party sites, confirm with the organiser.

Telangana groups that usually host Bathukamma

• NLTC (Netherlands): usually hosts — 2026 date not yet announced.
• Telanganites of Ireland: usually hosts — 2026 date not yet announced.
• Germany, Switzerland and the Nordics: we have not yet identified a confirmed 2026 organiser. Local Telugu associations, university Indian student groups and temple communities are the best places to ask.

City by city

Berlin

Dasara Vijay Muhurat 2:34–3:15 PM. The Berliner Bengalis Durga Puja runs from Friday 16 to Tuesday 20 October at the Zwölf-Apostel-Kirchengemeinde — a good place to meet the wider Indian community during Navratri. Berlin's Telugu families usually organise Bathukamma informally; check local Telugu groups.

Frankfurt

Vijay Muhurat 2:54–3:36 PM. The Rhine-Main area has a large Indian IT and finance community. Ask local Telugu associations and temple groups about a Bathukamma weekend.

Munich

We have not calculated a separate Munich window; it will sit within a few minutes of the German rows above, so confirm with your temple. Munich's Telugu community has grown with its tech sector — check local groups for Bathukamma plans.

Amsterdam and Amstelveen

Vijay Muhurat 3:08–3:50 PM in Amsterdam. Amstelveen hosts the Hoichoi and Anandadhara Durga Pujas from Saturday 17 to Wednesday 21 October. NLTC usually hosts Bathukamma in the Netherlands — 2026 date not yet announced.

The Hague

Use the Amsterdam window as a close guide and confirm locally. The Kallol Durga Puja runs from Saturday 17 to Wednesday 21 October at Zalencentrum Kristal.

Brussels

Vijay Muhurat 3:11–3:53 PM. Brussels' Indian community includes many EU and corporate professionals; local Telugu groups are the best source for Bathukamma plans.

Luxembourg

Vijay Muhurat 3:05–3:47 PM. A small but active Indian community; Bathukamma is usually a home or small-group celebration.

Paris

Vijay Muhurat 3:20–4:03 PM. Paris has a long-established South Asian community around La Chapelle, where puja supplies and flowers can be found. Check with Telugu associations for Bathukamma.

Dublin

Vijay Muhurat 2:52–3:33 PM. Ireland has one of Europe's fastest-growing Telugu communities. Telanganites of Ireland usually hosts Bathukamma — 2026 date not yet announced. A five-day Durga Puja from Friday 16 October at the Commercial Rowing Club, from €6, is listed by third-party sites (†) — confirm with the organiser.

Zurich

Vijay Muhurat 2:56–3:39 PM. Zurich, Basel and Geneva all have Telugu families; no 2026 Bathukamma organiser had been confirmed when we last checked.

Vienna

Vijay Muhurat 2:25–3:07 PM. Check with the local Indian associations for Navratri and Bathukamma gatherings.

Prague

Vijay Muhurat 2:31–3:13 PM. Prague's Indian community includes many students and IT professionals; Bathukamma tends to be organised through community WhatsApp groups.

Warsaw

Vijay Muhurat 2:04–2:45 PM — one of the earliest in Europe. Poland's Indian community has grown quickly; ask local groups about Bathukamma, and check with your temple whether it is using 18 or 19 October for Ashtami.

Budapest

Vijay Muhurat 2:14–2:57 PM. A smaller Telugu community, largely students and professionals; small-group celebrations are typical.

Copenhagen

Vijay Muhurat 2:35–3:16 PM. Danish Telugu families often join Indian community events across Copenhagen and Malmö.

Stockholm

Vijay Muhurat 2:10–2:49 PM. Stockholm has a sizeable Indian tech community; check local Telugu groups for Bathukamma.

Oslo

Vijay Muhurat 2:39–3:18 PM. Bathukamma here is usually an indoor celebration, given October weather.

Helsinki

Vijay Muhurat 3:00–3:44 PM. A small Indian community; home celebrations are the norm.

The nine days of Bathukamma

Bathukamma — "come alive, Mother" — is Telangana's flower festival in honour of Goddess Gauri. Women stack flowers in rising rings on a brass plate (tambalam), place a small turmeric Gauramma on top, sing and clap in circles around the stacks each evening, and finally immerse them in water. Each day has its own name and offering:

Offerings vary by family. On the ninth day, Saddula Bathukamma, the biggest stacks are made and a spread of rice dishes is shared — commonly curd rice, tamarind rice, lemon rice, coconut rice and sesame rice — with maleeda, a sweet of crumbled roti, jaggery and ghee.

How Telugu communities in Europe celebrate

• Flowers: tangedu (yellow senna) and gunugu (celosia) are almost impossible to find in Europe. Chrysanthemums, which are widely sold in October, marigolds, dahlias, asters and roses make beautiful stacks. Order from florists or markets a few days ahead.
• Immersion: putting flowers into rivers, canals or lakes may be restricted. Most groups use a tank or tub for a symbolic immersion and then compost the flowers — check local rules.
• Weather: October evenings are cool and often wet, so halls and community centres are the usual venues. Bring a shawl over your saree.
• Weekends: with small, scattered communities, one weekend celebration per city is common. In 2026 the weekends of 10–11 and 17–18 October both fall inside Bathukamma.
• Songs and food: the "Bathukamma Bathukamma uyyalo" songs, potluck saddulu and maleeda keep the celebration authentic even in a rented hall.

Dasara traditions for Telangana families in Europe

On Vijayadashami, Tuesday 20 October, Telangana families perform Shami (jammi) puja and exchange jammi leaves with elders as a symbol of gold and blessings. Shami leaves are hard to find in Europe, so many families use a symbolic substitute or a pressed leaf brought from home. Ayudha Puja, honouring tools, books, laptops and vehicles, is on Maha Navami, Monday 19 October. Since Dasara is a working Tuesday, a short evening puja and a larger weekend get-together are common.

Is Durga Ashtami on the same day as Saddula Bathukamma in Europe?

In western Europe, yes. Drik Panchang lists Durga Ashtami on Sunday 18 October for the UK and Germany, the same day as Saddula Bathukamma on the Telangana calendar. In parts of eastern Europe, the Baltics and the Balkans, panchangs may show Ashtami on Sunday 18 or Monday 19 October.

When is Dasara 2026 in Europe?

Dasara (Vijayadashami) is Tuesday 20 October 2026 across Europe. Vijay Muhurat is local: for example 2:34–3:15 PM in Berlin, 3:08–3:50 PM in Amsterdam, 3:20–4:03 PM in Paris and 2:52–3:33 PM in Dublin.

Can I use the India Vijay Muhurat in Europe?

No. India's window (1:59–2:45 PM IST) converts to a morning slot in Europe, which is not the Vijay Muhurat. Use the local afternoon window for your city from the table on this page.

No European Bathukamma event had a confirmed 2026 date when we last checked. NLTC in the Netherlands and Telanganites of Ireland usually host — 2026 dates not yet announced.
