Bathukamma and Dasara 2026 in Singapore: Dates, Vijay Muhurat and Where to Celebrate
A guide for Telangana and Telugu families in Singapore: the nine days of Bathukamma (10–18 October), why Singapore panchangs put Durga Ashtami on 19 October, Dasara on Tuesday 20 October with the Dashami caution on the Vijay Muhurat, and what to expect in six areas of the island.

Quick answer: Bathukamma 2026 runs from Saturday 10 October (Engili Pula Bathukamma, on Mahalaya Amavasya) to Sunday 18 October (Saddula Bathukamma) on the Telangana calendar. Singapore panchangs list Durga Ashtami on Monday 19 October, so you may see the finale marked on either day. Dasara (Vijayadashami) is Tuesday 20 October. Singapore's Vijay Muhurat is 2:50–3:38 PM, but Dashami tithi begins at 3:20 PM, so only 3:20 PM to 3:38 PM falls inside Dashami. No Singapore Bathukamma event had a confirmed 2026 date when we last checked.
Singapore's Telugu community — many of them professionals and families from Hyderabad and the Telangana districts — has made Bathukamma one of the most colourful Indian community events on the island. This guide covers the 2026 dates, the timing quirk that affects Singapore specifically, the nine days of the festival and practical pointers area by area. For Dussehra across the island, see our Dussehra 2026 Singapore area-by-area guide.

Why Singapore shows Ashtami on 19 October
Ashtami tithi begins at 8:27 AM IST on 18 October, which is 10:57 AM in Singapore. East of India, the clock shift pushes that start time past local sunrise, so panchangs calculated for Singapore list Durga Ashtami on Monday 19 October. Malaysia, the UAE and Australia show the same pattern. Telangana's calendar, which most Telangana families follow for Bathukamma, keeps Durga Ashtami and Saddula Bathukamma on Sunday 18 October.
- Families following the Telangana calendar: Saddula Bathukamma on Sunday 18 October — a convenient weekend evening.
- Temples using a Singapore panchang: Durga Ashtami pujas on Monday 19 October, the same day as Maha Navami.
- Community events: typically on a weekend that suits the venue, which may be before or after these dates.
Dasara Vijay Muhurat in Singapore: the 3:20 PM caution
The Vijay Muhurat is calculated from local sunrise and sunset. For Singapore on Tuesday 20 October:
| Place | Vijay Muhurat (SGT) | Sunrise | Sunset | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Singapore | 2:50–3:38 PM | 6:47 AM | 6:52 PM | Dashami begins 3:20 PM, so only 3:20 PM to 3:38 PM falls inside Dashami |
Dashami tithi runs from 12:50 PM IST on 20 October (3:20 PM in Singapore) to 2:11 PM IST on 21 October. Because Dashami starts in the middle of Singapore's Vijay Muhurat, the first half-hour of the window is still Navami. If you want your Shami puja, vehicle puja or new beginning to fall within Dashami, aim for 3:20 PM to 3:38 PM. Temples may publish their own timings; follow your priest if they differ.
Do not use India's time. India's Vijay Muhurat is 1:59–2:45 PM IST. It is calculated for Indian sunrise and sunset, and converting it to Singapore time gives a slot outside the local window. It is not the right window here.
Because Singapore is small, the window is the same across the island to within a minute or so; the area-by-area sections below therefore focus on where to celebrate rather than on timing differences.

Associations that usually host
- TCSS: usually hosts a Bathukamma celebration, which has been held at Sembawang Park — 2026 date not yet announced.
- Singapore Telugu Samajam: check whether it is hosting a Bathukamma or Dasara gathering this year — 2026 date not yet announced.

Area by area: where to celebrate
Little India and Serangoon Road
The heart of Hindu Singapore during Navratri. The Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple and the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple on Serangoon Road hold Navratri programmes, and the shops along Serangoon Road and around Tekka Centre are the easiest places to buy flowers, garlands, turmeric, brass plates and puja items for Bathukamma. Go early in the week before Saddula Bathukamma; marigolds and chrysanthemums sell out fast.
Central and Chinatown
The Sri Mariamman Temple on South Bridge Road and the Sri Thendayuthapani Temple on Tank Road are well-known centres for Navarathri in central Singapore. Check each temple's notices for Durga Ashtami (19 October) and Vijayadashami (20 October) timings.
East
Families in Tampines, Bedok, Marine Parade and Katong often visit the Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple on Ceylon Road or the Sri Sivan Temple in Geylang East. Condo and community-club Bathukamma gatherings are common in the east, where many Telugu families live.
North
Woodlands, Sembawang and Yishun have growing Telugu communities. TCSS's Bathukamma has been associated with Sembawang Park; watch for its 2026 announcement. If you join an outdoor event, bring water and an umbrella for the afternoon heat and the odd shower.
North-East
Punggol, Sengkang, Hougang and Serangoon North have many young Telugu families. Expect smaller Bathukamma circles in condo function rooms on the weekends of 10–11 and 17–18 October; check with your residents' groups and local temples for Dasara pujas.
West
Jurong, Clementi, Bukit Batok and the areas around one-north and the universities have many Telugu professionals and students. Neighbourhood temples hold Navratri and Vijayadashami pujas, and student and workplace groups sometimes organise Bathukamma evenings — ask on campus and in community groups.
The nine days of Bathukamma
Bathukamma — literally "come alive, Mother" — is Telangana's festival of flowers, dedicated to Goddess Gauri. Women arrange seasonal flowers in rising rings on a brass plate (tambalam), place a small turmeric Gauramma on top, gather in circles to sing and clap around the stacks in the evening, and finally immerse them in water. Each day carries its own name and naivedyam:
| Day | Date | Name | Traditional offering |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sat 10 Oct | Engili Pula Bathukamma | Begins on Mahalaya Amavasya; sesame and rice-flour offerings |
| 2 | Sun 11 Oct | Atukula Bathukamma | Flattened rice (atukulu) with jaggery |
| 3 | Mon 12 Oct | Muddapappu Bathukamma | Soft-cooked lentils, milk and jaggery |
| 4 | Tue 13 Oct | Nanabiyyam Bathukamma | Soaked rice with milk and jaggery |
| 5 | Wed 14 Oct | Atla Bathukamma | Atlu (pancakes) offered |
| 6 | Thu 15 Oct | Aligina Bathukamma | Traditionally a pause day with no offering |
| 7 | Fri 16 Oct | Vepakayala Bathukamma | Fried rice-flour balls shaped like neem fruit |
| 8 | Sat 17 Oct | Vennamuddala Bathukamma | Butter, ghee, sesame and jaggery |
| 9 | Sun 18 Oct | Saddula Bathukamma | Grand finale with several rice dishes (saddulu) and immersion |
Offerings vary by family. On Saddula Bathukamma, the ninth day, families make their tallest stacks and share several rice dishes — curd rice, tamarind rice, lemon rice, coconut rice and sesame rice are typical — along with maleeda, a sweet of crumbled roti, jaggery and ghee.
Celebrating Bathukamma in Singapore: practical tips
- Flowers: tangedu (yellow senna) and gunugu (celosia) are rarely sold in Singapore. Marigolds, chrysanthemums, roses and orchids from Little India and neighbourhood florists work well. Pre-order for the weekend of 17–18 October.
- Immersion: putting flowers into reservoirs, canals or the sea is not appropriate. Organised events usually provide a water tank for symbolic immersion; at home, a basin of water is enough, and the flowers can be disposed of afterwards.
- Weather: October afternoons are hot and showers are common. Evening gatherings and covered venues are the norm.
- Songs: learn a few lines of "Bathukamma Bathukamma uyyalo" with the children; many groups share lyrics and recordings beforehand.
- Food: potluck saddulu are common at community events — ask the organiser what to bring.
Dasara traditions for Telangana families in Singapore
On Vijayadashami, Telangana families perform Shami (jammi) puja and exchange jammi leaves with elders as a token of gold and blessings. Ayudha Puja falls on Maha Navami, Monday 19 October, when tools, books, laptops and vehicles are honoured. Because 20 October is a working Tuesday, many families do a short puja in the evening and save the larger family gathering for the weekend; if you want to keep the muhurat, the Dashami part of the window (3:20 PM to 3:38 PM) is the one to aim for.

Is Saddula Bathukamma on 18 or 19 October in Singapore?

Can I use India's Vijay Muhurat time in Singapore?
No. India's window (1:59–2:45 PM IST) is worked out for Indian sunrise and sunset; converted to Singapore time it falls after the local window has closed. Use the local Singapore timing.
Is there a Bathukamma event in Singapore in 2026?
TCSS usually hosts a Bathukamma celebration, but its 2026 date had not been announced when we last checked. Check whether the Singapore Telugu Samajam is also holding one this year.
Editor's note (4 October 2026): We are waiting for TCSS's 2026 Bathukamma date and venue, and for confirmation of whether the Singapore Telugu Samajam is holding a celebration — organisers are still publishing 2026 flyers; we will update this guide.
