Koniamman Temple, in the Town Hall area at the heart of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, is a Hindu temple to the goddess Koniamman, regarded as a presiding deity of the city, according to the New Indian Express and The Hindu.

Coimbatore chronicler Rajesh Govindarajulu told The Hindu that while the temple has been built and rebuilt several times, the present idol is very old, and an even older image of the goddess (only the head) stands in a shrine at the rear. In earlier times, almost all local marriages began at the temple, from matchmaking onwards.
On festival days about 20,000 devotees visit the temple, its executive officer told the New Indian Express.
Heritage
An 84-foot rajagopuram, described as the largest in the region, was built for the temple's kumbhabhishekam ahead of the 2011 car festival season, the New Indian Express reported.
